Use A Heater Core On The 90 Jetta

Replacing your Jetta heater core involves a figure of steps.


The heater core is mounted under the dashboard on the passenger side of your 1990 Jetta. Remove the Heater Core

Loosen and remove the screws in the center console and left instrument panel tray with a screwdriver. Remove the console and panel tray.


8. Disconnect the speedometer cable from the instrument cluster by reaching behind the cluster, squeezing the clips on the speedometer cable and pulling the cable from the cluster.


9. Detach the 10 spring clips around the instrument cluster bezel by prying the bezel with a flat-head screwdriver. Remove the two screws in the front of the instrument cluster with a screwdriver. Pull the cluster from the dash and disconnect its electrical connectors.


10. Loosen and remove the screws that attach the heater core cover to the heater unit. Lift the heater core cover up. Lift the heater core up and remove it.


Install the Heater Core


11. Install the new or repaired heater core into position. Attach the heater core cover and tighten its screws with a screwdriver.


Loosen and remove the centre steering rotate kernel. Bring about a end on the steering spin and the steering rotate shaft so you'll be able to reinstate the steering wheel to its infant position. Wiggle and tap the steering circle with your artisan until it comes unpaid from the steering wheel shaft.7.


13. Push the speedometer cable into place on the back of the instrument cluster until the clips click into place. Install the center console instrument panel tray and tighten the retaining screws with a screwdriver.


14. Install the steering wheel on to the steering wheel shaft. Use your marks to line up the steering wheel and the shaft to their original position. Tighten the center steering wheel nut with a wrench.


15. Clip the upper and lower steering column panels in place. Install the airbag unit onto the steering wheel and tighten the airbag retaining screws with a wrench. Push the steering wheel cover back into place.


16. Install and tighten the coolant drain plugs on the engine block and radiator. Refill the radiator with coolant through the exposed opening at the top of the radiator. Also, fill the overflow bottle with coolant to the "Fill" line.


17.Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery and tighten the nut with a wrench. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check the coolant level by looking into the radiator fill opening. Add more coolant as needed. Install and hand-tighten the radiator cap.
