1967 Mustang & GT

FORD 1967

The year was 1967 and life was well quiet, except for Ford.

The year of 1967 for Ford produced some cars that are still etched in the minds of car enthusiasts today! Ford had its Mustang line up and running. Mr. Carol Shelby must of thought this is the car I want to make a monster out of and he did just that by building the Shelby Mustang GT 500. The body line were remolded and the engine was blown up to monster status.

The GT 500 was equipped with the Police Interceptor 428. The birth of what we now call the Eleanor was running the streets.

Carol then took one of the Fastback Mustangs and equipped it with the 427 FE motor and after a few tweaks it was reaching 500 horsepower and topping speeds of over 170 mph. The car was called the "Super Snake". The car was never put into major production and sold at auction just a few years back for over $1.2 million.

That legend is what people today strive for when they turn the key to their Hot Rod or Sports car. The sound of the 1967 Carol Shelby Mustang was like branding the rear end of a Dragon...the roar is loud and thunderous. The moment you hit the gas your hands want to squeeze the steering wheel and your back arches as to brace itself for a launch into outer space.

Now the Ford GT40 ..... Grand Touring and only 40 inches off the ground.

The MK IV GT40 was the 1967 version and it won the Le Mans in 1967 and remains the only US car to claim a win at Le Mans.
