Instructions

    1

Open the hood and look at the decal on the radiator support shroud. This decal supplies information as to engine type, engine group, timing, idle rpm and spark plug gap, along with several other items. In the upper left corner of the decal it will give the engine size as a 2.4 or 4.0. The 2.4 liter is the four-cylinder and the 4.0-liter is the six-cylinder engine.

    2

Inspect the passenger side of the engine. The 4.0-liter engine has six spark plugs plainly visible on the side of the engine.

    3

Look at the driver's side of the engine. The intake manifold and exhaust manifold are both secured to the engine block by flat clamps shared by both the intake and exhaust. Simply count the number of intake or exhaust runners for a definite identification.
