How to Remove the Overflow Jug From a '98 Honda Accord EX

Removing the coolant reservoir tank from your 1998 Accord EX may be required if damage occurs to the tank. The tank is plastic and over time the seams will sometimes split and coolant will then leak from the system. Replacement tanks are available from the Honda dealer and from many auto parts stores but do not replace the tank with a used one as the age and integrity of the tank cannot be verified and it may fail.

Instructions

    1

Open the hood of your Honda and locate the coolant reservoir or overflow tank on the passenger's side of the engine compartment near the radiator support. Place a bucket under the tank to catch any coolant that is in the tank then locate the hose on the bottom of the tank.

    2

Remove the hose clamp from the hose on the bottom of the tank with a pair of hose clamp pliers then pull the hose off the fitting on the tank. Allow the coolant to drain from the tank, into the bucket below.

    3

Remove the upper hose from the tank; there should not be a clamp on this hose. Grasp the tank and slide it straight up and off the bracket that holds the tank. Set the tank aside or discard it if it is not usable.
