How Do I Fix 2002 Tracker Door Handle?

The 2002 Tracker is a mini SUV manufactured by Chevrolet. Previous models of the Tracker were known as Geo Trackers. Although the door handle is not necessary for operating the Tracker, it can make life easier when it comes to getting in and out of the vehicle. If the handle is broken, the most common issue is a stuck latch or lock cylinder. If the latch or lock is broken, you can easily replace the handle in a matter of minutes.

Instructions

    1

Open the door with the handle you want to repair and remove the six poppets along the edge of the door with a flat-head screwdriver.

    2

Remove the two screws from the armrest with a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the armrest.

    3

Remove the window crank by removing its single screw with a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the door lock button in the same way.

    4

Pull the door panel off of the door. Disconnect the two wiring connectors from the door by squeezing the plastic tabs on the connector and pulling them apart. Set aside the door panel.

    5

Lift the lock cylinder at the center of the door with a flat-head screwdriver. If the cylinder is stuck, apply force to lift it up and release it. If the handle is still not working properly, you will need to replace it.

    6

Remove the four screws from the center of the door with a Phillips screwdriver. Disconnect the locking rod from the door handle. Pop the door handle out.

    7

Install a replacement door handle onto the door and reattach the locking rod. Reinstall the four screws and the door panel. Reconnect the two wiring connectors.

    8

Reattach the poppets to the door panel. Reinstall the armrest, window crank and door lock button.
