How to Remove Suburban Rotors

The front brakes on a Suburban are disc brakes, while the rear brakes are drum brakes. Each of the disc brakes has a rotor that serves as the source of friction for the brake pads to clamp onto. Both brake pads and rotors wear down, though the pads wear at a faster pace and need changing more often. In this case, the project vehicle is a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban, but the process is similar for other years of Suburban as well.

Instructions

    1

Park the Suburban on a level surface. Set the parking brake. Lift the front of the SUV using the jack and undo the front wheels with the tire iron.

    2

Unbolt the front brake caliper bracket from the steering knuckle with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Hang the caliper from the frame using the J-hook.

    3

Remove any securing clips around the wheel lugs using the needle-nose pliers. Slide the rotor off the wheel hub and set it to the side.
