The front brakes on a Suburban are disc brakes, while the rear brakes are drum brakes. Each of the disc brakes has a rotor that serves as the source of friction for the brake pads to clamp onto. Both brake pads and rotors wear down, though the pads wear at a faster pace and need changing more often. In this case, the project vehicle is a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban, but the process is similar for other years of Suburban as well.
Instructions
- 1
Park the Suburban on a level surface. Set the parking brake. Lift the front of the SUV using the jack and undo the front wheels with the tire iron.
2Unbolt the front brake caliper bracket from the steering knuckle with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Hang the caliper from the frame using the J-hook.
3Remove any securing clips around the wheel lugs using the needle-nose pliers. Slide the rotor off the wheel hub and set it to the side.
