2002 Pontiac Grand Am Side Window Removal

2002 Pontiac Grand Am Side Window Removal

Throughout the life of your Grand Am, you may end up getting a broken or cracked side window. In order to repair this broken window, you will need to remove the glass. Removing the window glass---actually an easier job than you may think---constitutes a similar procedure in many vehicles. You do not need many tools and will only require a basic understanding of the vehicle's makeup and how the window mechanism works.

Instructions

    1

Remove the door trim panels with the trim-removal tool. Disconnect the negative negative terminal on your battery if your vehicle has power windows or locks, and remove the switches on the door for these features by using a flat-blade screwdriver. Disconnect the electrical connectors for these features. Remove the window operating handle by using the trim-removal tool, if your vehicle does not have power windows. Remove the panel behind the door pull handle using the trim removal tool or a flat-blade screwdriver, then remove the panel-mounting screws with the screwdriver. Remove any more panels with the screwdriver and trim-removal tool, then remove the main door trim piece by working around it and disconnecting any clips or electrical connectors.

    2

Remove the plastic water deflecting sheet underneath the trim panels. Carefully peel away the plastic from the door, paying attention not to make any rips.

    3

Remove the window glass. Lower the window glass enough to access the bolts holding it in place, and remove these bolts by using the socket wrench and appropriately sized socket. If your vehicle has power windows, you may need to apply temporary power to the regulator to lower the window glass. Remove the rubber strip on the inside edge of the door window opening. Pull the window glass up, and remove it from the door.
