How to Install a Windshield on a K5 Blazer

How to Install a Windshield on a K5 Blazer

You can install a windshield on a K5 Blazer right from home using a few supplies that you can purchase from any auto parts store. You will need to enlist the help of an assistant to complete this job. It will only take you about an hour to complete this task. The Chevy K5 Blazer was introduced in 1969 as the smallest full-size SUV of the GM C/K trucks. These instructions begin after you have removed the old windshield.

Instructions

    1

Warm up the new gasket by keeping it in a warm place until it is soft and pliable.

    2

Stretch the gasket around the new windshield, making sure the slit on the gasket faces outside the Blazer. Run a thin bead of sealant along the outermost channel on the gasket.

    3

Spread petroleum jelly into this outer groove, putting a little extra at the top and bottom center.

    4

Push a nylon cord into this groove, starting at the bottom center of the gasket and leaving about a foot of cord hanging out. End at the starting point, leaving another foot of cord dangling out.

    5

Put on your work gloves and position the windshield into the windshield frame from outside of the K5. At the same time, have your assistant guide it into place from inside the vehicle. Have the assistant place the cord ends inside the vehicle first.

    6

Press the gasket onto the frame with your hands while your assistant pulls one of the cords slowly around the whole perimeter of the windshield. This will pull the lip of the gasket into the vehicle.

    7

Allow the sealant to dry for 48 hours before moving the vehicle.
