The brake switch of the 1995 GMC Sonoma turns the brake lights on whenever you press the brake pedal. If the brake light switch breaks or begins to malfunction, brake lights may not come on, which poses a serious safety hazard. Thankfully, replacing the switch is simple and should only take fifteen minutes at most. Replace the brake switch as soon as possible, because not only could an accident ensue, but many states have laws against driving with a faulty light resulting in a ticket, if caught.
Instructions
- 1
Park the Sonoma on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
2Open the hood and use a socket wrench to disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Set the negative cable aside, assuring that it doesn't touch metal.
3Reach up underneath the left side of the dash, above the brake pedal, and locate the brake switch. Remove the screw securing the brake switch to the top of the brake pedal with a Phillips screwdriver.
4Remove the brake switch. Install a replacement brake switch and re-install the securing screw.
5Reconnect the negative cable to the battery and close the hood.
