The title should be typed or printed in black or blue ink. The owner's name and address on the title should be identical to the name and address on his or her driver's license. The name of the registered owner, name of the legal owner, Vehicle Identification Number, year and make of the vehicle should be identical on all records and documents associated with the sale. Verify the fame matches sample forms published by the DMV in its Registration and Title Guide. The form should reflect it is one of three versions approved in either October 1996, October 2001 or January 2006.2. Inspect the title to verify it is filled out according to DMV regulations.
The October 1996 version requires 11 items of information. The October 2001 version requires 21 items of information. The January 2006 version requires 25 items of information.
