Maserati Ghibli

The GHIBLI 1967-1973

The original Ghibli Maserati was produced from 1967-1973 The famous sports car was the Italian jewel of its time. The name Ghibli means hot and dry wind. Today we will discuss the 1st versions of this wonder car. The Ghibli showed up at the Turin Motor Show
in 1966 and in 1967 the first car was produced and hit the streets. The first car was a 2+2 2 door that outsold Ferrari & Lamborghini. The assembly for the car was done in Modena, Italy. The Maserati staff brought out a coupe and a spyder version.

A young designer who worked with Ghia shaped the Ghibli into the long shark nosed beast. The length of the car was 190 inches and the width was 70 inches and height was 46 inches. The curb weight depending on adds was 3640 to 3900 lbs.

A simple but sharp looking design for a sports car. The long nose meant there was something big under that hood. The Ghibli was fitted with two different motor sizes. The first being a V8 4.7 L with 4719 cc and 4 twin vertical Weber 40 carburetors. The motor put out 310 HP with a top speed of 154 MPH. The second motor was a V8 4.9L with 4930 cc and 4 twin vertical Weber 42 carburetors. This motor put out 335 HP with a top speed of 170 MPH.

You could order your Ghibli with the 5 speed manual ZF transmission or the automatic 3 speed. The body of this beast was all steel and sat on a set of Perelli Cinturato 205 VR15 Tires. The front lights were automatic and a set of fog lamps were carefully tucked in the grill.

The interior is perfectly laid out and easy to use. The steering wheel was a 3 spoke wooded grip and the doors, seats and console were covered in leather.

The layout of the instrument panels were in a line and the only thing that was a little difficult to play with was the radio but who cared it was too much fun to drive and that all you wanted to do.

The Ghibli production ended in the year 1973. There were 125 Spyders made and 1170 coupes. A highly collectible car that enthusiasts still talk about in forums and car shows. The name Ghibli has been brought back twice now and the pressure is on to keep the reputation and design of this original icon.
