NY Cigar Distributor owes 6.1 Million in taxes
Originally arrested for not paying taxes totaling 1.5 million, Aamir Sulaiman's indictment was unsealed today showing a total of 6.1 million unpaid dollars owed to the state of New York. Mr. Sulaiman's cigar distribution company purchased millions of cigars from Pennsylvania and resold them in New York state without paying taxes on the majority of those sales.
The company Delta Distributions Services Corporation was selling the cigars and Mr. Sulaiman was shown to have falsified tax documents and his business documents on behalf of those sales. The Delta Distribution company worked out of Brooklyn on Union Street. The state of New York requires a 75% tax on wholesale price of cigars sold or
manufactured.
Aamir Sulaiman between March and November of last year paid around $100,000 in taxes for the sales. In fact he owed 6.1 for those sales! Delta had received shipments of 2.2 million cigars between Sept to Nov of last year.
Authorities said then that investigators had seized hundreds of thousands of cigars and more than $9,000 in cash from Delta's warehouse.
Aamir potentially faces a maximum of eight and to 25 years if convicted of the tax fraud charge.
