Use a graduation invitation to announce your special celebration.
Even if you cannot invite all of your friends and family members to your graduation ceremony, you should still formally announce the big event and invite them to your private celebration. Who to Invite
If your family only receives a limited number of seats to the actual graduation ceremony, limit the invitations to close family members. After parents and siblings receive a ticket to the ceremony, the Emily Post etiquette website recommends inviting one member from each set of grandparents.
Wording
Use your wording to carefully explain the intentions of the graduation invitation. If you are using the invitations to invite guests to the ceremony itself, state that explicitly. If you are simply using the invitation to announce the graduation, make that clear as well.
Insert Information
On the graduation party insert, include all the details required for the party. These details include the date, time and location of the party. You might also include detailed directions, dress code information or RSVP requests. For guest convenience mention whether a full meal or simple snacks will be served at the party.
Time Frame
If possible, send your graduation invitations three to four weeks before the celebration. If guests are coming in from out of state, try to give at least six weeks notice. This time frame allows guests to make travel and child-care arrangements, purchase gifts and prepare for the day.
