I always associate oilcloth with summer, because my grandma used it for her table at their summer lake place. My siblings and I grew up eating meals on it, and I have a lot of nostalgia for it.
It seems as though it is popping up more frequently that it used to, which makes sense ... it's incredibly practical, especially for families with small children. It's basically a vinyl material, but it has some heft to it, so it feels substantial. It's got a great coating which makes it easy to clean and comes in great patterns. Can be cut to size, which is appealing for those with unusual tabletop shapes/sizes.
You can even use a large piece of it for a picnic blanket, for use at a park or outdoor concert.
