How to Change the Front Brakes on an Infiniti G35

It is important that you keep the brakes on your Infiniti G35 in good condition. If you allow the brake pads to wear beyond the recommended minimum thickness, they will begin to damage the rotors. The result is a more costly repair bill when you have to replace the rotors as well as the brake pads. It does not take very long to change the brake pads on the front wheels. You can have each wheel done in about 30 minutes.

Instructions

    1

Open the engine compartment. Drain about one-half of the brake fluid from the master cylinder using a turkey baster. Place the fluid in a drain pan for recycling. Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels of the Infiniti. Lift one side of the car using the automobile jack.

    2

Place a jack stand under the G35 near the jack point and raise the jack stand to the frame. Remove the lug nuts with a lug wrench and take the wheel off the car. Loosen the lower retaining pin on the caliper using a socket and ratchet. Pivot the caliper up off the brake rotor and remove the front brake pad.

    3

Place the back of the caliper and the back of the brake pad between the jaws of the C-clamp and twist it shut until the caliper piston is retracted back into the caliper housing. Remove the C-clamp and the back brake pad from the caliper. Install the new brake pads and lower the caliper down onto the brake rotor.

    4

Tighten the lower retaining pin using the socket and ratchet. Put the wheel on the car and tighten the lug nuts with the lug wrench. Remove the jack stand from under the car. Lower the Infiniti to the ground. Repeat the procedure on the other wheel.

    5

When the project is complete, add fresh brake fluid to the master cylinder to bring it up to the proper level. Pump the brake pedal several times until it feels tight to seat the brake pads against the rotors.
