The Plitvice Lakes is a series of 16 beautiful lakes in the Plitvice Lakes National Park. The lakes are inter-connected by a series of beautiful waterfalls and set in deep woodland. All the 16 individual lakes flow into the Korana River. The lakes are separated into an upper and lower cluster formed by runoff from the mountains. The lakes descend over a distance of some eight kilometers where they collectively form the Korana River.





The Plitvice Lakes is considered to be one of the most beautiful European natural resources. Due to its natural beauty and significance, the Plitvice Lakes and a large forest complex around it were set aside as a national park in 1949. The Plitvice Lakes National Park is a World Heritage Site.
