How to Pull the Door Panel Off a 1992 Chevy Blazer S10

The door panel on a 1992 Chevrolet S10 Blazer attaches to the door skeleton with a variety of plastic retaining clips and steel screws. This panel is made from impact-resistant ABS plastic, dyed to match the interior color scheme of the vehicle. The panel covers the interior components of the door, which include the handle actuator rods and the door locking mechanism. To access these interior components to perform repairs, the entire door panel must be removed.

Instructions

    1

Open the door and Insert a flat-head screwdriver between the door handle bezel and the door panel and gently pry it away from the door until its free.

    2

Pry the window crank retaining clip off of the window crank shaft using a flat-head screwdriver. Remove the window crank and set it aside. If the vehicle is equipped with power windows, pry the power switch mounting panel out of the door panel with a flat-head screwdriver and disconnect the panel's electrical connector. Set the switch panel aside.

    3

Pry off the armrest screw cover using a flat-head screwdriver. Remove the armrest screws using a Phillips screwdriver.

    4

Pry around the outer circumference of the trim panel with a putty knife to separate the trim panel from the door skeleton. Separate the door panel from the door and fully remove the door panel from the door.

    5

Install any trim panel retainers that remained in the door during removal back into the trim panel. Align the trim panel with the door skeleton so the panel retainers line up with their holes in the door skeleton.

    6

Push down on the door panel to seat the retainers into the door skeleton. Use a rubber mallet to gently tap around on the door panel to seat the retainers. Reinstall the armrest screws and replace the armrest screw cover.

    7

Reconnect the power window switch panel's electrical connector and reinstall the switch panel into the door panel. Reinstall the window crank and crank retaining clip if the vehicle has manual crank windows by aligning it with the regulator shaft. Reinstall the door handle bezel by aligning it with the door handle bezel hole and pressing down until it snaps into place. Open and close the door to ensure that the door panel is properly reinstalled and doesn't rattle or shake.
