How to Change the Gear Shift Lever on an F250

The F-250 pickup truck is manufactured by the Ford Motor Company and is available in a range of trims. Replacing the gear shift lever on your F-250 is a fairly simple process that should not take you more than 15 minutes and requires only simple hand tools. A replacement gear shift lever can be purchased online, at an automotive-parts store or from your local Ford dealership.

Instructions

    Turn the F-250's engine off and remove the truck's keys from its ignition.

    Remove the four screws from the shift lever boot with a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the boot.

    Remove the nut and bolt from the shift lever with a socket wrench. Pull off the shift lever.

    Attach the new shift lever using the nut and bolt.

    Reattach the boot and its four retainer screws using a Phillips screwdriver.
