Wave Rock - A Spectacular Rock Formation in Australia

Wave Rock is very specular natural rock formation in shape of a big wave. It is, in fact, one of Australia's biggest waves and is also the furthest from any ocean. It forms the north side of a solitary hill known as Hayden Rock. This hill is located near the small town of Hyden in the Western Australia.

Wave Rock is an incredible geological feature and great attraction. It is about 14 meter high and around 110 meter long. Wave Rock is believed to have formed about 60,000,000 years ago when it was exposed. It is a part of the 160 hectare nature reserve, Hyden Wildlife Park.

The name of the Wave Rock comes from its form. The rock looks like a giant ocean wave ready to break everything on its way. The shape of the wave is formed by gradual erosion of the softer rock beneath the upper edge, over many centuries. The colors of the Wave are caused by the rain washing chemical deposits down the face, forming vertical stripes of greys reds and yellows.

The magnificent Wave Rock is a beautiful sight not to be missed. It is an impressive tourist attraction in Australia. The changing of sunlight alters the colors and appearance of the rock. As a result it is worth seeing the Rock at different times of the day.
