In 1971, the Galant quietly arrived in the U.S., though not with the name "Galant," rather Dodge placed the Colt name on imported Galant. The 2000 Galant, which means chivalrous in French, came standard with a 145-horsepower, 2.4-liter in-line four-cylinder engine. It also had an optional 3.0-liter V-6 that pushed out 195 horsepower. Fitted with a capsule headlight system, the 2000 Mitsubishi Galant provided freedom in its headlight design. Instead of large, glass assemblies for headlights, the Galant used small capsules inserted into a plastic headlight assembly. Replacing the headlight bulbs on the 2000 Galant is relatively easy and requires no hand tools.
Instructions
- 1
Place the Mitsubishi on a flat service in park. Set the parking brake before continuing.
2Open the Galant's hood and locate the headlight cover -- roughly 3-inch wide circular piece of plastic -- behind the headlight bulb intended for replacement. Turn this cover clockwise to unlock it and pull it from the headlight assembly, exposing the headlight socket below it.
3Hold the rear of the headlight socket and turn it counterclockwise to unlock it. Pull the headlight socket and bulb from the headlight assembly.
4Grab the bulb and pull it from the socket with a slight wiggling motion.
5Pick up the new 9003 headlight bulb using a clean, lint-free cloth and line up its prong with the slots in the socket. Never tough the bulb with your bare hands, as the oils left by your hands can cause the bulb to burn out prematurely.
6Slide the socket and new bulb into the headlight assembly and turn the socket clockwise to lock it into place.
7Place the plastic cover behind the bulb and turn it counterclockwise to lock it into place.
8Repeat Steps 1 through 7 for the headlight bulb on the other side of the Galant, if needed.
9Close the Galant's hood.
