AMB transponders are electronic devices that are mounted inside race cars that calculate scoring and lap counts. AMB transponders work in conjunction with timing and scoring equipment receivers in place at the racing track or venue. AMB makes two basic types of transponders--one a rechargeable mobile unit; the other a fixed system that is direct-wired to the vehicle's battery. The mobile unit can be converted to a direct-wire unit with minor adjustment.
Instructions
- 1
Clip the charger end off the charging wire with the wire strippers.
2Strip the main rubber sheathing back approximately 1 inch to access the smaller, positive and negative wires inside the main transponder cable.
3Strip approximately 1 inch of sheathing off the positive and negative wires inside the main transponder cable.
4Unroll the wire and run it from the transponder mounting area to the battery. Cut off two lengths of wire long enough to reach.
5Twist the cut wire ends together with the ends of the positive and negative transponder cable wires. Attach the O-rings to the other end of the attached wires, which will be connected directly to the battery.
6Heat up the soldering iron and solder one end of the cut wire to the positive wire inside the transponder cable and solder the other piece of cut wire to the negative wire inside the transponder cable. Solder the connections by holding the tip of the soldering iron underneath the wire and then placing the solder against them.
7Remove the negative and positive battery cables from the vehicle with the adjustable wrench. Attach the O-rings connected to the positive and negative transponder cable wires to their respective battery terminals, slip the battery cables back on and then tighten them with the adjustable wrench.
8Plug the jack end of the transponder cable into the output jack on the transponder.
