How Do I Wire a 6-Pin Overhead Console?

Many vehicles, such as the Ford Navigator or Cadillac Escalade, have overhead consoles that feature various electrical components. These devices include compasses, thermometers and even LCD displays. To properly connect such overhead consoles, you must wire the 6-pin connector attached to the rear of the device. These vehicles have built-in connections, so you need only access the rear of the overhead console to properly wire the 6-pin connector.

Instructions

    1

Pop open the hood of your vehicle, and use a socket wrench to disconnect the battery.

    2

Remove any screws or clips from the overhead console. Most vehicles have their overhead consoles attached by a few screws, but some also use clips. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove any screws and a flat-head screwdriver to remove any clips.

    3

Pull down on the overhead console to remove it from the ceiling.

    4

Plug the 6-pin wiring connector into the power connection at the rear of the overhead console.

    5

Pop the overhead console back into place, and reattach any screws or clips. Reconnect the battery.
