Detroit Electric SP:01 - World's Fastest Electric Production Car

Detroit Electric unveiled the company's new electric production car - The SP:01. This electric car is the successor of one of the most popular electric cars of the 1900s, The Detroit Electric. The company which was previously know as the Anderson Carriage Company produced and sold around 13,000 pieces of the car during its 32 years of production.

Detroit Electric, now named after the iconic car, is back with another electric car - The SP:01, an electric sports car. The company claims the SP:01 to be the world's fastest electric production with a top speed of 155 mph and an acceleration rate of 0-60 mph in just 3.7 seconds.

Detroit Electric claims that the SP:01 is expected get between 150 and 180 miles on a single charge. It will take around eight hours for the batteries to get back to full charge when connected to a normal charger and just over four hours when connected to a higher-powered 240-volt 32-amp charger. Interestingly, that energy can be used to light the house in case of power outage using an optional home-charging unit.

The production of the SP:01 will start in August and the company has a plan to produce only 999 pieces of the model. However, this time Detroit Electric is not stopping producing just one car. It is coming with more family friendly cars next year. The fastest electric car, the SP:01, will come with a price tag of $135,000.

The SP:01 features dual 37-kWh lithium-polymer batteries that are capable of generating 201 horsepower and 166 pound-feet of torque. The SP:01 is based on a Lotus sports car with a custom carbon fiber body and weighs just about 2,400 pounds. It has its own integrated smartphone system, which will let users control everything.
