Bloodhound SuperSonic Car - 1000mph Speed Car

A British team is developing a car that will be capable of reaching 1,000 mph world land speed record. The supersonic car is being developed by the International Education Initiative Bloodhound Project. Triple-powered by F1 engine, jet and rocket, the Bloodhound SSC is aiming to smash 1,000 mph next year.

The supersonic car will have a prototype Eurojet EJ200 jet engine that will take the car to 300 mph. After this, a bespoke hybrid rocket will boost the car up to 1,000 mph. A third engine, 2.4 Litre Cosworth CA2010 Formula 1 V8 petrol engine, is used as an auxiliary power unit.

The pencil-shaped supersonic car will be 12 feet long and 18 inches in diameter. The car will weigh just under 1,000 lb.

It is being developed and built with the intention of breaking the land speed record by 33%, the largest ever margin. Currently, the record sits at 763 mph, set by the ThrustSSD in 1997. But the Bloodhound gang wants to see that number upped by a huge margin to 1,050 mph. The Bloodhound SSC is expected to make its first attempt at the record in 2014.
