E-Z-GO has been a leader in light transportation since 1954. The company set out to build a better golf cart and now produces an extensive line of over 40 different models. E-Z-GO manufactures top-of-the-line golf carts as well as work vehicles, shuttles and various recreational vehicles. Older E-Z-GO models commonly end up with brake problems after extended use.
Total Brake Failure
Many E-Z-GO cart owners have noted that their brakes have stopped working entirely and suddenly. When the owner pushed the brake pedal, it went all the way to the floor with no resistance. This is typically the result of a broken cable on the driver's side.
Sticking Brakes
Some customers have reported sticking brakes that need to be pumped repeatedly in order to engage. This is often the result of a loose bolt on the backside of the backing plate. This bolt ensures proper tension on the brake shoes.
Recommendations
Because E-Z-GO brake problems are fairly common, some E-Z-GO owners recommend replacing the brakes with four-wheel disc brakes or upgrading to independent hydraulic brakes, such as a Jake brake (a compression release engine brake) for added safety.
