Gauging Scratches
- 1
The first thing you want to do is to investigate what kind of scratches on your acrylic windshield you are dealing with. Small, hairline scratches are easy to take off as compared to larger scratches. As a general rule, if you are able to put your fingernail into one of the scratches, you should probably consult a pro before trying the repair at home.
2Using a mixture of warm water and mild soap, gently clean the acrylic windshield, making sure not to scrub too hard. If you scrub too hard, you may create more scratches. If you are unsure of what kind of fabric to use to clean your windshield, you can either use a special fabric bought through a motorcycle shop, an old T-shirt or even a cloth baby diaper. Using another piece of that fabric, dry off the windshield.
3Using another piece of fabric, gentle apply the fine grade buffing solution to the outside of the acrylic windshield. Make sure to fill in all of the spaces where you are able to see scratches. Read the manufacturers label to see if there are any additional rules you need to follow. If you want to apply a polish, use a furniture polish on yet another piece of fabric. It also works to fill in any scratches that you may have missed.
