BMWs are dependable, long-lasting cars fit for the entire family. Equipped with the latest safety features and styling, the BMW is a vehicle for everyone. Generally BMWs do not demand much maintenance, but sometimes certain parts must be replaced. The brake calipers are one such item on the BMWs (especially the sports sedans). Rebuilding the brake calipers on a BMW is quite simple and can be performed in a matter of minutes.
Instructions
- 1
Put the car in park and jack the driver's side front wheel up with the car jack.
2Remove the lug nuts from the wheel and then slide the wheel off the studs. Use the socket wrench to remove the two mounting bolts holding the brake caliper onto the steering strut.
3Pull the caliper free from the strut and then use the pliers to pull the brake pads from inside the calipers by disengaging the two-pronged retainer clip. Use the socket wrenches to remove the dust boot and brake pistons from inside the caliper.
4Replace all of the bushings and internal dust seals in the caliper with the new ones from the rebuild kit. Slide a new set of brake pads into the caliper and engage the retainer clips.
5Slide the caliper back onto the steering strut and reinstall the mounting bolts with the socket wrench. Slide the wheel back into place and remount it with the lug nut wrench. Lower the car and repeat Steps 1-4 on the other three wheels.
