How to Locate the Radiator Drain Screw on a 1996 Buick Regal

Locating the radiator drain screw on a 1996 Buick Regal can be a bit of a complicated task if you are trying to locate it from the top of the vehicle. It can be done, but you will scratch you arms and even possibly break wires if you attempt to reach the drain (also known as a petcock) from the top of the engine. You will find that the process is a much easier one from beneath the vehicle.

Instructions

    1

Drive the Buick Regal onto a set of front-end automotive ramps and secure the parking brake. Place a wheel chuck behind the rear wheels of the vehicle to prevent the Regal from rolling off the front-end ramps. Raising the front end of the Regal allows more clearance to access the lower radiator.

    2

Release the hood latch. It is located on the driver's-side kick panel. The hood has a safety latch. Pull upward on the hood and release the safety latch. Secure the hood with the hood prop. Raising the hood allow lights into the engine bay and makes spotting the drain screw easier.

    3

Locate the bottom right-hand side (driver's side) of the radiator. The screw is gray or black in color and it has a large tab that makes it look like a key. Turn the tab counterclockwise to remove the screw.
