How to Install Side View Mirrors on My 2005 Grand Caravan

In 1983, Chrysler shook up the world of family automobiles with the release of the Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager. Dubbed "minivans," these vehicles had the passenger capacity of full-sized vans, but the maneuverability of mid-sized cars. The 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan came standard with a 180-horsepower, 3.3-liter V-6 engine. Dodge equipped the 2003 Caravan and Grand Caravan with A-pillar-mounted mirrors, which made the rear of the vehicle visible even with the doors open. This feature allows you to see if a car is coming while loading the kids. Replacing these A-pillar-mounted mirrors is slightly different than replacing door-mounted mirrors.

Instructions

    1

Remove the A-pillar trim, if equipped with power mirrors, by using a trim stick to release the clips and pulling the trim from the A-pillar.

    2

Pry upward on the dashboard top cover with a trim stick to release the clips. Lift the cover only far enough to gain access to the mirror's wiring harness. Disconnect the mirror wiring harness. Only perform this step if your Grand Caravan has power mirrors.

    3

Remove the triangle-shaped trim that covers the area where the mirror connects to the door, using a trim stick to pry it off.

    4

Remove the three bolts holding the mirror to the door, using a ratchet and socket, and pull the mirror off the door.

    5

Fish the power window wire through the large hole where the mirror mounts, if applicable, and place the mirror on the door. Tighten the mirror bolts to 7 foot-pounds with a torque wrench and a socket.

    6

Reinstall the trim that covers the connection point between the door and the mirror. Listen for the clips to snap into place.

    7

Reconnect the power mirror wiring harness under the dashboard top cover and press the top cover down to lock it into place, if removed.

    8

Reinstall the A-pillar trim, if applicable.

    9

Repeat Steps 1 through 8 for the mirror on the other side of the Grand Caravan.
