How to Remove a Jeep Windshield

Changing your Jeep's windshield is a difficult task that can be accomplished with patience and the right tools. A proper windshield removal kit will provide you with all the tools you will need to remove your Jeep's windshield. The windshield removal kit will come with braided windshield wire, handles, and a sliding wire attachment. The tools will help you remove the windshield in one piece.

Instructions

    1

Remove the outside black windshield trim located on the edge of the windshield. Use your butter knife to pop it out of place.

    2

Cut a 3-foot piece of braided windshield wire.

    3

Place the cut piece of wire into the groove of the hook tool. The groove of the hook tool should be on the center of your wire. Bend your wire over the end of the hook tool.

    4

Push your hook tool with wire through the top left of your windshield --- this is the weakest area in the Jeep windshield. Place it right between the windshield and the frame where the windshield is glued on.

    5

Remove your hook tool and leave your wire behind. If your wire keeps pulling out when you remove your hook tool, have someone hold the wire from the inside.

    6

Attach the t-handle grips to each end of the cable. Insert the wire through the holes in the handle to secure the cable in place.

    7

With the help of another person, grab each t-handle grip and pull along the windshield. Go around the edge until the windshield is separated from the glue.

    8

Remove the windshield. With the help of someone else, carefully lift the windshield off the Jeep. Use gloves if the windshield shattered.
