How to Install an Idle Air Control Valve on a 2000 Ford Windstar

Ford threw its hat into the conventional minivan ring with the likes of Chrysler, Chevy and other automakers in the 1995 model year, with the release of the Windstar. Prior to 1995, Ford offered a minivan, the Aerostar, but it was a far cry from the conventional minivan of the era. The idle air control valve on the 2000 Windstar has a motor-driven valve that the vehicles computer can open and close to allow more or less airflow into the combustion chamber to adjust the idle speed. Replacing the 2000 Windstars IAC valve is a fairly simple task on both of the vans available engines.

Instructions

    1

Trace the air filter outlet tube toward the engine until you reach the throttle body, the metal component connecting the tube to the engine. Look on the front of the throttle body and find the idle air control valve, the electrical component bolted to the throttle body.

    2

Press and hold the unlocking button on the IAC valves wiring harness and unplug the harness from the IAC valve.

    3

Remove the two bolts securing the IAC valve to the throttle body, using a ratchet and socket. Pull the IAC valve and the IAC valve gasket from the throttle body.

    4

Guide the IAC valve bolts through the bolt holes in the new IAC valve and place a new IAC valve gasket on the bolts. Align the IAC valve bolts with the bolt holes in the throttle body and hand-tighten the bolts. Torque the IAC valve bolts to 8 foot-pounds with a torque wrench and socket.
