While doing research for a new book where my heroine has rules about starting a relationship and what she thinks is the secret to falling love to Mr. Right after dating a whole lot of Mr. Wrongs, I came up with these top ten:
- Let go of past relationships, don't put too much pressure on future relationships, enjoy the relationship you have now.
- Feel the Force, Luke. The power is in you to stay or walk away. Go for what you want.
- Learn from your mistakes so you don't date the same jackass over and over and over and over.
- Be realistic. Romantic books, movies, songs are art, fantasy, dialogue, lyrics, words, entertainment; not reality. Look for a good heart, not a fast talker.
- Yes, you are surrounded by assholes but there are good ones out there. Take a look around girl. And don't judge a bookworm by his cover.
- Leave the house. I know it's scary but you gotta put yourself out there to get anywhere.
- Go with the flow. Don't feel pressured. This ain't a race. Bang the boy if you want but don't expect a good lay to turn into anything more than a good lay.
- If your bff hates him, dump him. Your girl knows you, loves you, wants what's best for you. Listen to her, idiot.
- Drama can spice things up at first, but long term, drama-rama gets old real fast. Do you really want to spend your relationship fighting? The answer is a big fat no!
- Use your grrl power. We women have a great sixth sense. Use yours. Listen to the voices in your head. They've been with you all the way.
Do you have a dating top ten? Do's and don'ts that you follow in your relationships?
