How to Remove the Condenser Fan Motor From a 95 Acura Legend

The Acura Legend was introduced in 1986, and was produced until 2005. The 1995 Acura Legend was available in the L, LS, and SE trim levels. All three trims were equipped with a 200-horsepower, 3.2-liter V-6. The A/C condenser motor on the 1995 Legend is located behind the condenser, in the engine compartment. There are two fans under the hood; one is the condenser fan, and the other is the radiator fan.

Instructions

    1

Raise the hood on the Acura and set the hood prop. Disconnect the wiring harness leading to the driver's side fan, which is the A/C condenser fan.

    2

Remove the air conditioner condenser fan motor mounting bolts, using a 3/8-inch-drive ratchet and socket. Pull the top of the fan inward toward the engine slightly, then upward and out of the engine compartment.

    3

Set the condenser fan on a workbench with the fan facing upward. Write "Front" or "F" on the fan blade, facing away from the motor with a black marker. Hold the fan blades steady, and remove the center retaining nut in the middle of the fan with a ratchet and socket. Slide the fan off the center shaft of the fan motor.

    4

Remove the fan motor mounting bolts from the fan shroud. Pull the motor wiring clear of any small tabs on the rear of the shroud. Remove the motor from the shroud completely.

    5

Install the new motor and tighten the fan motor bolts to 96 inch-pounds, with a torque wrench and socket. Install the fan blades onto the center shaft of the new motor. Make sure the "F" or "Front" mark is facing away from the fan motor. Install the retaining nut onto the center shaft, and tighten the nut to 180 inch-pounds with the torque wrench and a socket.

    6

Install the A/C condenser fan assembly back into the engine compartment. Align the bottom tabs of the fan with the receivers on the bottom of the condenser. Install the condenser fan mounting bolts, and tighten them to 98 inch-pounds.

    7

Install the wiring for the new fan motor into the small clips on the back of the shroud. Connect the electrical harness to the new fan motor.
