How to Change the Taillight on a 2007 Toyota Sienna

The 2007 Toyota Sienna employs several combination light bulbs, located within the corner and lift-gate lens assemblies. Although the taillight bulbs for your Toyota Sienna have the potential to last several years, frequent operational checks of the exterior lighting systems should be made to ensure proper functionality and driving safety.

Instructions

Operational Checks

    1

Stand at the rear of the vehicle and have an assistant start the vehicle.

    2

Instruct the assistant to engage the turn signals and marker lights. Have the assistant apply the brakes and place the transmission in reverse to test the backup lights; stay clear of the vehicle while the transmission is in reverse.

    3

Instruct the assistant to place the transmission in the Park position and turn off the engine.

    4

Note any bulbs that did not light during the operation checks, along with the positions of each bulb within the corner and lift-gate lens assemblies.

Corner Lens Bulbs

    5

    Open the vehicle's lift gate.

    6

Examine the inner portion of the corner lens assembly and locate the two 10 mm bolts securing the assembly to the vehicle; remove the two bolts using a socket, extension and ratchet.

    7

Grasp the inner and outer edges of the corner lens assembly. Separate the assembly from the vehicle. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the rear of the assembly to free the lens from the vehicle.

    8

Examine the rear side of the lens assembly and locate the appropriate bulb socket, as noted from the operational checks. Turn the socket base counterclockwise and pull the socket from the assembly to expose the bulb.

    9

Remove the burnt bulb from the socket. Use a paper towel or the corner of your shirt to wipe off any fingerprints from the bulb, and insert the replacement bulb into the socket.

    10

Insert the bulb socket into the lens assembly. Turn the socket clockwise to secure the socket to the lens assembly.

    11

Reconnect the lighting harness connector to the rear of the lens assembly.

    12

Fit the lens assembly to the vehicle. Secure the lens assembly to the vehicle with the two bolts, using a socket, extension and ratchet.

Lift-Gate Bulbs

    13

Open the vehicle's lift gate. Examine the center strap, mounted near the center of the interior lift gate panel.

    14

Insert a flat-head screwdriver between the top portion of the strap cover and lift-gate panel; slide the strap cover up to separate the piece from the lift gate.

    15

Remove the bolt securing the center strap from the lift gate, using a socket and ratchet. Remove the strap from the lift gate.

    16

Detach the small access door from the lift-gate panel, located to the right of the strap mounting area. Grasp the inside of the access opening and separate the interior panel from the lift gate. The interior panel is secured to the lift gate with several press-fit connectors around the perimeter.

    17

Examine the inside portion of the lift gate and locate the appropriate bulb socket.

    18

Turn the bulb socket counterclockwise and pull the socket from the lift-gate lens assembly; remove the bulb from the socket.

    19

Insert the replacement bulb into the socket. Wipe off any fingerprints present on the bulb, using the corner of your shirt, or a paper towel.

    20

Insert the bulb socket into the lens assembly; turn the bulb socket clockwise to lock the socket in place.

    21

Fit the interior lift-gate panel to the lift gate. Make sure the press-fit connectors are properly aligned with the corresponding holes on the lift gate. Firmly bang against the perimeter of the interior panel to secure the piece to the lift gate.

    22

Secure the center strap to the lift gate with the 10 mm bolt, using a socket and ratchet. Secure the strap cover over the center strap mount to finish the process.
