How to Change the Brake Pads on a 2005 Dodge Neon SXT

Replacing the brake pads when they have worn out is an incredibly important maintenance task for any vehicle, but on the sporty 2005 Dodge Neon SXT it is arguably even more important. Without well-performing brakes, the added power that the SXT has could become dangerous, as the worn brake pads will not be able to slow the vehicle properly. To avoid this it is important to change the brakes as soon as they have worn out.

Instructions

    1

Place blocks behind the back wheels and lift up the front end with a jack.

    2

Remove the wheel with a tire iron.

    3

Remove the two bolts on the caliper with a socket wrench.

    4

Pull off the caliper and remove the pad inside. Use a Flat-head screwdriver to pry out the brake pad if you need to.

    5

Push back the piston in the caliper with a c-clamp.

    6

Place the new brake pad into the brake caliper.

    7

Place the brake caliper back over the brake rotor. Bolt it into place with the two bolts you removed in step three.

    8

Place the wheel back onto the car and tighten it in place with a tire iron.

    9

Repeat the steps above for every wheel until the brake pads on all four wheels have been replaced. Be sure to move the blocks to the front of the front wheels before raising the back end of the car.
