The radiator fan is responsible for keeping a steady flow of air through the radiator to help keep the engine cooling system working. A broken cooling fan will quickly lead to an overheated engine, so you need to remove it to either replace it or take it to an automotive shop for repair. The good news is that you can remove and replace the radiator fan on a 2000 Chevy Cavalier without removing the radiator itself. You still need to use caution as you will be working underneath the car.
Instructions
- 1
Disconnect the Cavalier's negative battery cable.
2Raise the front of the car using the floor jack and support it on jack stands.
3Unscrew and remove the cooling fan's mounting bolt with a wrench. Disconnect the fan's electrical connector.
4Remove the radiator fan assembly carefully through the bottom of the car.
5Raise the replacement fan assembly into position in the engine from underneath the car.
6Connect the fan's electrical connector and then tighten the mounting bolt. If you have a torque wrench, tighten the bolt to 53 inch-pounds.
7Reconnect the battery cable.
