After a period of time, it becomes inevitable that the seal on your automobile will begin to crack and leak. It is sealed with urethane, which eventually will wear down and crack. After locating the leak, you can clean the area, but without fixing the leak, you risk repeated problems.

Cleaning the Water Leak

Wipe up the water with a lint-free towel or rag. If you do not use a lint-free towel, you risk making a bigger mess, with lint on the door and interior fabric.
2Shampoo your car. This step is especially important if the water has entered and had time to soak into any part of your interior. If the water is not cleaned out and aired out, you risk the smell of mold overtaking your car. Shampooing will also ensure that water damage will not stain your fabric.
3Open all windows and allow the car time to dry. If the interior has gotten wet, leaving windows open will minimize mold and mildew damage.
Repairing the Window Leak

Pry up the window seal where it is cracked or damaged. Use the trim removal tool and wedge it underneath the trim.
5Clean the glass along the edges with soap and water. Dry with a clean towel. The edge of the glass is what the trim grabs, so water cannot enter. Cleaning it will provide better adhesion.
6Place urethane sealer along the edge of the glass in a thin line or bead.
7Push the window seal onto the urethane and hold for a few minutes.
8Leave the urethane to dry or cure. Typically, 24 hours is sufficient, but make sure to read the directions on your urethane sealer.
