How to Replace the Core Support on a Civic EG

The Honda Civic EG is a fifth generation of Civic which was produced from 1992 to 1995. The core support is a buffer made from hard rubber that fits around the car's radiator and protects it from damage. Over time, the rubber core support can dry out and crumble. If this occurs, the old radiator core supports should be removed and replaced with new ones. This process takes around two hours.

Instructions

    1

Remove the retaining nuts holding the fan shroud in place around the radiator. Pull the fan shroud free from the engine compartment after you remove the nuts.

    2

Place a drain pan underneath the radiator and loosen the petcock valve, or drain plug. Let the radiator coolant flow into the drain pan and then remove it from underneath the vehicle. Screw the plug back into place.

    3

Use the screwdriver to remove the top and bottom hose clamps and pull the hoses free from the radiator.

    4

Unbolt the radiator mounting bolts with the socket set and lift the radiator out of the engine compartment.

    5

Use the socket set to remove bolts that hold the top and bottom core supports in place. Set the new core supports in position and insert the mounting bolts and tighten them with the socket set.

    6

Slide the radiator back into place and then replace the radiator mounting bolts with the socket set.

    7

Slide the upper and lower radiator hoses back onto the radiator and tighten the clamps with the screwdriver.

    8

Place the fan shroud back in place and replace the retaining nuts.

    9

Open the radiator cap, pour the coolant in and replace the radiator cap.
