Mitsubishi has sought to give the Outlander further value by offering a 7-seater model to complement the existing five-seater. The new 7-seater model gets a third row with a pair of jump seats, which can be stowed away when not in use. Of course, this thinly-padded seat cannot be construed to offer any serious utility over long drives.
Mitsubishi however hopes that the 7-setaer model will give it a competitive edge aagainst its main rivals, notably the Honda CR-V and the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, both of which are available only with 5-seater options. The Outlander's 2.4-litre 170 PS petrol engine continues to power this soft-roader. There's no diesel option on the cards for the time being. No price has been announced, but the 5-setaer version retails for Rs 20.25 lakh, ex-showroom. We expect the 7-seater to cost just a few thousands more.
