The master cylinders on a Honda are generally good for the life of the vehicle. However, a seal failure inside the master cylinder can cause the cylinder to fail. This usually results in an initially firm brake pedal that slowly sinks to the floor. When this happens, you should replace the master cylinder so that you get consistent brake pressure pedal feel.
Instructions
- 1
Place a catch pan under the vehicle and directly under the brake master cylinder.
2Place shop rags directly under the brake master cylinder to control any leaks when you remove the cylinder.
3Mark the location of each brake line to the master cylinder with masking tape and permanent marker.
4Remove the brake line to master cylinder connection with a tube nut wrench. To do this, slide the tube nut wrench over the brake line and orient the wrench so that it fits over the end of the tube nut, then turn the nut counterclockwise.
5Remove the brake master cylinder to brake booster mounting nuts and slide the master cylinder off the brake booster.
6Install the new brake master cylinder. Installation is the reverse of removal.
