The Actron PocketScan is an automotive diagnostic tool that uses OBD-II, a version of on-board diagnostics that debuted in 1996. If there is a bug in your code scanner's software, Actron might have released an update for the device that corrects the problem. You can connect your scanner to your home computer to download and install the update using the USB cable that came with the device.
Step 1 Download the Actron Software Suite (see Resources). If you already have the software, click on "Start" then "All Programs" and open it. Click on the installation file and follow the "Next" prompts to install the software.
Step 2 Click on "Tool Update" when the program starts. Connect the Actron PocketScan to your computer using the USB cable.
Step 3 Click "Next." Select "Detect Device Automatically," then click "Next" again.
Step 4 Choose your update from the list. If the update does not list a version number, you already have the specific version of the software installed. Click "Next."
Wait until the update progress meter is full. Click "Done" and close the software window. Unplug your Actron from your computer. The device is now updated.
