Guayabera

Sometimes known as "Guayavera" is the classic
Cuban style shirt developed in the late 1800's to early 1900's. The style has been claimed by several Latin cultures, Mexico, Spain and the Philippines. Some know it as the Mexican Wedding Shirt. The Mexican story is that the shirt was made in the Yucatan Peninsula and that trade routes through the Caribbean lead the shirt to Cuba. The Spanish say they had the shirt for some time and that it was then
shipped to the Philippines were the embroidery
started.

Guayabera has been used in a Cuban legend that says a poverty stricken countryside seamstress had sewn large patch pockets onto her husbands shirts to carry Guava from the fields.

The stories are still being disputed as of today, however the story ends the Guayabera shirt is a great article of clothing that can be worn in the Spring, Summer and Fall. The material is usually a light Cotton or Linen that breaths nicely.
