150 Year Old Port

AGED TO PERFECTION!

A tale of aged Port wine has been swirling around the connoisseur world fro some time. Tale has it maybe 60,75,100 years old. The truth is in 2008 the Taylor's wine maker got wind of a very old casket of wine that had been aged for over 150 YEARS. Belonging to a very prominent Douro family that stored the wine in a Portugal village of Prezegueda in the Corgo Valley.

The Taylor wine maker, David Guimaraens made several attempts to purchase the wine but with no success. In 2009 after the sole surviving descendant died. The lady's heirs decided to sell the two casks of  historical wine.

The Taylor's acquired the wine finally in 2010 which is the last of its kind in perfect condition before the era of Phylloxera (insect that feeds on grapevines) devastated the wine industry of Europe. The two casks were moved to the Vila Nova De Gaia lodge and the Taylor's decided the wine was too rare to add to its own reserves. Instead of being blended the wine was marketed as a limited collector's piece.

The name Scion was chosen after the rarest aged Port and then bottled to perfection to match the wine. This Mid-19th Century aged wine has been through many times including the Crimean War. The wine was given a hand blown crystal decanter and molded into a special wooden case with brass fittings. When you open this case inside the lid you will find a nice book telling the story of how this magnificent wine came about. There is even rare guarantee seals done up by the Douro Wines Institute (IVDP) to authenticate the wine.

The wine will be sold only by special hand picked wine distributors.
