2014 Buick Verano Review

2014 Buick Verano Review - The 2014 Buick Verano ranks 3 out of 14 Upscale Small Cars. This ranking is based on our analysis of published reviews and test drives of the Buick Verano, as well as reliability and safety data.

The 2014 Buick Verano delivers a cushy ride, luxurious interior finishes and a good amount of cargo space, reviewers say. For having the best combination of factors that appeal to families, we named the Verano our 2014 Best Upscale Small Car for Families.
Test drivers say the Buick Verano’s base four-cylinder engine is sufficient around town, though they prefer the optional turbocharged four-cylinder engine for its ample power. The standard six-speed automatic shifts smoothly, reviewers note, and an optional six-speed manual adds a sporty flair. The base Verano gets an EPA-estimated 21/32 mpg city/highway, which is on the low end of the class. The Verano Premium with a turbocharged engine averages 21/30 mpg when equipped with an automatic transmission. Reviewers say the Verano’s comfy, stable ride makes it a standout in the class. Test drivers note that steering and braking are competent and the Verano’s handling is respectable, but it doesn’t compete with rivals that offer a sportier ride.

The Verano’s cabin feels luxurious and is made with premium materials, reviewers say. Front seats are spacious and supportive, with plenty of room for the driver to stretch out, they add. Test drivers say that the rear seats are snug, but usable, which is normal in a small sedan. Reviewers like the Verano’s generous list of standard features, including a six-speaker stereo with touch-screen display, USB and auxiliary ports, satellite radio, OnStar, a rearview camera, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, steering wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls and a voice-activated infotainment system. Optional features include a nine-speaker Bose sound system, push-button start, navigation and a moonroof. Several test drivers say the dashboard is crowded with too many buttons, making controls confusing to operate. Newly available safety features include blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, rear parking sensors and rear cross traffic alert.
