Things you will need:
- Carpet Scissors
- Glue (Hot Melt)
- Carpet Knife
- Matching Carpet (Remnant)
- Carpet Tractor
Follow these steps:
First, use the carpet scissors to trim out the burned fibers around the burn. Be careful, you do not want to make the burn hole bigger. If the burn melted the carpet backing, just leave it alone. Just make sure there are no visible burned areas. You can use a vacuum attachment to remove the dirt or debris around the burn if desired.
Second, snip some new fibers (cut close to carpet backing) from your spare piece of carpet or you can use fibers from a closet or area that is not noticeable. Make sure the new fibers are the same length as the ones surrounding the burn.
Next, is the tricky part! You are going to fill in the burned area with the new fibers. Squeeze 1-2 drops of hot glue into the burned area and place the new carpet fibers on top. This must be done quickly, or the glue will harden! Make sure the new carpet fibers (flow) directionally with the others.
Once the glue has cured, then you are going to use the carpet tractor to blend and mesh the fibers together. Run the carpet tractor over the burned area (up and down) & (side to side). This will ensure the carpet fibers blend properly with the others. Continue this process until desired results are achieved.
At this point, the burned area should not be noticeable. If not, then continue to fill in the burned area with new fibers. Follow steps above for best results. Once desired results are achieved then you need to remove any excess material. Use the carpet scissors to remove any excess glue or carpet fibers. Continue this process until desired results are achieved. Allow the area to dry completely before vacuuming or walking on.
