Is this aggregate data collection or a privacy violation? If sharing my generic data helps businesses fix their advertising, properly stock their shelves, and (drum roll) make more money, I can live with that. If they have nefarious uses for this data that violate my privacy...this is where we run into problems. NOTE TO APPLE: Change iOS "Airplane Mode" to "Shopping Mode"?
