Hit by Hail? Costs of Paintless Dent Removal

For me as a committed car enthusiast, I find getting hit by hail stones or some other impact which puts a dent in my beloved paintwork a very frustrating situation. I mean, I didn't just buy a car from a dealer with an amazing paint job just to get it ruined by dents all over. So when this happens I tend to get the dent repaired as soon as possible. One option to repair dents is where they do the repair job without having to repaint.

Why Use Paintless Dent Removal?

The main advantage of using this technique is that it leaves the original paint in place, removing the job of finding exact match paint for a re-spray. Another advantage of using this method is it removes the possibility of mistakes in repainting the damaged area, not only in the color as mentioned above but also the possibility of over spraying onto other areas of the vehicle.

Also, the car repairer doesn't need to fill the damaged area or sand it. Because of this, using the paintless repair techniques means the cost to the consumer will often be less compared to traditional repair jobs. Not only that but some repair companies will have a quick turnaround compared to the older repair methods. Some will even do the job in the same day.

What Can Be Repaired?

Due to stronger and better paint being made available in the more modern cars (around the early 90's), the paintless dent repair can often be used of many different types of dents.

The dent can usually be repaired this way as long as;

1. It is not near the edge of the metal.

2. The area of the dent has not previously had a traditional repair job (with filler for example).

3. The paint in the dent area hasn't been cracked or damaged in some other way.

As long as the dent falls in the above situations then many dents; small to even very large (football sized) types can be repaired.

Summary

Overall I think this way of repairing dents is a great idea and it is certainly worth thinking about if your car body work gets damage by hail stones or by something else. If you are similar to me then you may not have heard about this method until recently. This shows how doing a bit of research can really add knowledge which gives us practical things we can use in keeping our cars in the best of condition.
