Calling all start-ups: Google for Entrepreneurs Day 2013 is coming

10 years ago, in a garage in Hunters Hill, a group of entrepreneurs were working on what they hoped would be a better online map. That scrappy startup in a garage became Google Maps, showing that great ideas and world-changing businesses can come from any corner—indeed, any garage—of the globe.

We want to make sure that our homegrown entrepreneurs who are working on today’s most exciting technology start-ups have all the tools and knowledge they need to take their big idea to the world, so on September 23, we’re hosting our second Google for Entrepreneurs Day at Google in Sydney. It’s the kick-off event for a week long global series of events for entrepreneurs run by the Google for Entrepreneurs team.

Google for Entrepreneurs Day has a developer stream and a business stream, so whatever side of the business you’re on, there’ll be lots to learn - from better analytics for your web properties, through to developing for different web platforms, through to making money from your site. You can see a full agenda here, and register to attend here - places are limited, so get in quick.

Google for Entrepreneurs Day takes place during the two-and-a-half week Startup Spring, a nationwide festival of startup-related events taking place across Australia from September 18 to October 7. Startup Spring is the first major initiative from startupAUS, a newly-formed group representing the tech startup industry and aiming to improve the environment for startups in Australia, ultimately making their success a national imperative for our country.

That’s because a strong homegrown tech sector is vital to future Australian jobs and wealth. A recent report by PwC found that the tech startup sector has the potential to reach $109bn (4% of the economy) and employ more than 540,000 people. Today there are around 1,500 tech start-ups in Australia, but we hope to see thousands more in future … and maybe some of the tools and ideas learned at Google for Entrepreneurs Day will help the next generation flourish. We hope to see you there!
