Pico Cao Grande - An Amazing Needle-shaped Peak on the Island of Sao Tome

Pico Cao Grande (Great Dog Peak) is an amazing needle-shaped peak located in the Southern part of the island of Sao Tome, right next to the coast of Africa near the Equator. It is a volcanic plug and is the main attraction in the Obo National Park. Pico Cao Grande is one of the major tourist attraction in the small nation of Sao Tome and Principe.

Pico Cao Grande rises dramatically over 300 meters above the surrounding terrain and the peak is 663 meters above the sea level. The summit is considerably higher than the surrounding jungle and offers breathtaking views around. However, Pico Cao Grande is extremely difficult to climb because of the thick fog and mist that lingers around it. Climbing is possible only with suitable rock-climbing equipment.

Sao Tome and Principe is a island nation in the Gulf of Guinea, composed of two archipelagos around the two main islands: Sao Tome and Principe. It is one of the smallest African countries.
