The 1991 Honda Civic was and continues to be a favorite model for import car enthusiasts, with body parts readily available, including the front and rear bumpers. The removal and installation of a 1991 Honda Civic bumper is straightforward and should take around two hours to complete both the front and rear. Only a few tools are needed for the complete removal and installation.

Instructions

Remove Front Bumper

    1

Remove the row of Phillips screws along the rear edge of the front bumper, just in front of the front tires. Do this for both sides.

    2

Pull the plastic clips out of the bottom edge of the front bumper that connects it to the splash shield. Pry each clip out using a flat screwdriver.

    3

Unscrew the two Phillips screws on each of the turn signal lights on the front bumper. Remove the screws and pull the lenses off. Unplug the wiring from the back of lights and push it into the holes in the bumper.

    4

Remove the two Phillips screws from the tabs located just inside the holes in the bumper where the turn signals were.

    5

Unbolt the two 10 mm bolts inside each hole where the turn signal lights were. These bolts are inside the hole and can be found by looking inside the hole and looking up. Pull the bumper off of the Civic.

Install Front Bumper

    6

Slide the front bumper into place with the top just underneath the front headlights. Make sure the bumper looks straight and level. Line the rear vertical edges of the bumper up with the holes for the Phillips screws. This edge is directly in front of the front tires. Install two Phillips screws on each side of the car.

    7

Look inside the two holes on the front bumper where the front turn signal lights will go. Find the two bolt holes inside the openings for the signal lights. Look inside and up to find the holes. Install two 10 mm bolts here using a 10 mm socket, ratchet and extension.

    8

Install two Phillips screw into each hole where the lights will go. The screws fit into the tabs that are on each side of the hole. Pull the light bulb and wiring out through the hole from behind the bumper.

    9

Plug the light bulb into the back of the turn signal lights and place the lights on the bumper. Install a Phillips screw on each end of the light lens, which can be seen after installation of the lens.

    10

Reach underneath the front bumper and attach the splash shield to the bottom of the bumper. Connect the two by lining up the row of holes with the plastic clips underneath the car. Push the clips through the row of holes in the bumper and through the holes in the shield to connect.

Remove Rear Bumper

    11

Remove the Phillips screws from the front edge of the rear bumper, located just behind the rear tires.

    12

Reach up and behind the rear bumper to locate the top of the rear bumper seam from the inside. Remove the row of 10 mm bolts from the seam using a ratchet, 10 mm socket and extension.

    13

Move to the middle of the rear bumper and reach behind and up to the top of the back side seam. Remove the two 10 mm bolts here. Pull the bumper off of the Civic.

Install Rear Bumper

    14

Place the rear bumper on the rear of the Civic. Install three Phillips screws along the front vertical edge of the bumper, just behind the rear tires. Use a short screwdriver to fit between the tire and bumper to install these screws.

    15

Reach behind the bumper to find the bumper's top edge on the back side, just below the tail lights. Find the row of bolt holes along this edge. Install three 10 mm bolts in these holes using a ratchet and extension. Do this for both sides of the bumper.

    16

Move to the middle of the rear bumper and reach inside and behind it. Install two 10 mm bolts here. The bumper is now completely installed.
